Nominees revealed for the 2021 CIBC Marcel-Robert Trophy

Sherbrooke, QC – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today each team’s nominee for the 2021 Marcel-Robert Trophy presented by CIBC. This honour is awarded annually to the player who best combines on-ice performance with academic success.
Each player selected by his team receives a $400 bursary. The three finalists will receive an additional $600 bursary and the Scholastic Player of the Year will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship in addition to the Marcel-Robert Trophy. Finally, the winner of the trophy will automatically receive the Guy Lafleur Award of Excellence from the Montreal Canadiens for his success on the ice and at school.
“In a pandemic year, our student-athletes have continued to give tremendous effort to perform well academically while dealing with this unprecedented situation”, said Natacha Llorens, the QMJHL’s Director of Player Services. “I’m proud of the way our players have adapted throughout the season. Furthermore, I’d like to extend my thanks to our academic advisors and our partners for their support and the tools they provided to ensure the academic success of our student-athletes.”
The three finalists will be interviewed by an independent selection committee in order to evaluate their academic and athletic accomplishments. In addition, critical thinking skills and knowledge of current events will be tested. The same committee will then determine the award winner.
The selection committee is comprised of:
- Nicolas Therrien – Former player and CFA
- Patrick Grandmaitre – Former player and Head Coach of the University of Ottawa Gee Gee’s
- Sébastien Fyfe – President of the Marcel-Robert Trophy Committee and General Manager of Alliance Sport-Études and Fondation Sport-Études
- Sébastien Goulet – Play-by-play commentator and columnist, TVA Sports
- Simon Gagné – Former player and lawyer at the Lavery, De Billy firm
